The Grateful Shepherd

When green waves smoothly in the free,

While Anne reads calmly under the tree,

And gifts are something in to give,

There the shepherd say, “I’m so thankful to live!”

When all March sisters walk in hold,

And Nanny Fran gets cough in cold,

When Grandpa Joe grows weak and old,

There the shepherd say, “Life is  gold!”

When youngsters burst in laughter,

And parents wond’ring come in after,

While the Fockers dine and full,

There the shepherd say, “Life is beautiful!”

When Grandson Perkins counts to five,

Making others wondering why,

When birds chirping in the sky,

There the shepherd say, “How I love this life!”
